Amazing Indian Businesses Hiring the People With Disabilities

Everyone has a right to learn and earn, so does people with disabilities. The NGO staff train to shape them and certain companies hire them for their skills.

Everyone matters and the differently-abled people have the right to earn for themselves in their own rights. Supreme Court has already sent instructions to the states in implementing legislation on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, but a few renowned Indian businesses had already taken the lead. With time, new business names have joined in. It could seem from the outside that these companies are being exclusive to build up their brand names, but the fact is these companies are being more inclusive.
Before the differently-abled people are hired, they are shaped to reach the level, thanks to the efforts of the members of NGOs working for people with disabilities in India.

Let us look into the 12 wonderful Indian businesses where the differently-abled people are welcome without any bias, and the supportive reason being “everyone matters”.

1. Mirakle Couriers
Mirakle Couriers are hiring low-income deaf men and women, who did learn by doing knowledge in data entry and manipulation, sorting, tracking and scanning and related branch operations. They are now breaking stereotypes.
Recently Amazon Transportation Services did join hands with Mirakle Couriers for reaching out to the customers in South Mumbai, Powai and Sakinaka. The differently-abled employees are now leading different lives marked with kindness, independence, love and respect.

2. Echoes
Located in Delhi’s Satya Niketan, Echoes is the restaurant greeting its customers with a card reading, “Eat, Engage, Energise With The Café Managed By Differently-Abled Staffs. Let’s Lead By Actions Together.” Run by six hearing and speech impaired waiters, the restaurant is a great example that bridges the communication gap between the waiters and customers through the use of bells and bulbs.

3. Lemon Tree
In 2007, the Lemon Tree hotel chain had started by employing differently-abled people. They are given 10 days of training in the “See, Smile, Greet” programme. For communicating, the persons with hearing impairments take a notepad and pens. Employees having Down Syndrome are given daily one-hour training and to alert others on feeling overwhelmed, they use the whistles they carry.

4. Capgemini
In 2012, Capgemini began to recruit people with disabilities, and now, over 200 employees have been employed with disabilities, like speech, hearing and visual impairments, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and mental illnesses like schizophrenia. The company now feels the differently-abled people are working harder compared to the other employees; so they are inducted into the roles like account processing, software development and technology support.

5. Nukkad Teafe
Situated in Bhilai, Nukkad Teafe café has employed people with speech and visual impairments, and even members belonging to the transgender community. Along with participating in different other activities, the customers will be learning the way to communicate in sign languages.

6. Costa Coffee
Among the 100 employees employed at Costa Coffee, 15% of their store employees the persons with disabilities. Now the cafes chai has planned increasing the count across their stores. A store in Green Park of Delhi is completely managed and operated by differently-abled people.

7. KFC
KFC has employed over 170 specially-abled employees at all its stores in India. Generally, KFC employs people with speech and hearing impairments. The chain is known to conduct special training over an 11-week period for sensitizing them in subjects like English, food safety, critical thinking, life skills and more.

8. Mirchi and Mime
Mirchi and Mime are the Indian Grill and Bar located in Mumbai. Here, people with hearing and speech impairments are hired. They communicate with the other staff and servers completely in sign language. Their food menu contains the items with the relevant corresponding images. A Toronto-based bistro “Signs” is the inspiration to the bar since its operative concept is hiring differently-abled people.

9. Cafe Coffee Day
Hiring differently-abled employees with the tag “Silent Brewmasters” is among the hiring policy of CCD. They brew coffee behind the counters. Praised for possessing a heightened sense of vision and smell, they make sure to serve their coffees with perfection.

10. Accenture
Accenture is successfully running the “Skills to Succeed” initiative in India. This programme is meant for empowering people with disabilities with skill training for respective jobs like business process outsourcing, facilities and retail management, hospitality and more. Accenture is even having a “People with Disabilities Championship Network” for all their differently-abled employees. All the facilities of Accenture can be accessed by people with disabilities.

11. IBM
IIBM is having a special policy with 3 As — Accommodation, Accessibility and Attitude. IBM employs persons with disabilities in different departments like Project Management, Quality Assurance, Consulting and Human Resources. By conducting four-hour awareness sessions in 2016, IBM could sensitize the senior employees in displaying unintended bias towards the people with disabilities.

12. Wipro
Wipro focuses on creating a complete framework and ensures inclusivity in all the working spheres. With its hiring policy being totally merit-based for all the roles, the differently-abled people are not just employed in “identified jobs”. Wipro brings on a long term focus on special task force development.

Disability is neither a fault nor a hindrance — some people just have different abilities. So, the NGO members are staunch at their belief that the differently-abled people can achieve what they are dreaming of. Just as the staff organize programmes and workshops to train them, the renowned brand names are even hiring them so the differently able people have a chance to earn and establish themselves.
